Down To Earth

Norquay’s Prairie Soil Services has been a Parkland institution since its humble beginnings as a family-owned business in 1983. “The company got its start in the early 1980s as Hudye Soil Services Inc.,” says Parker Summers, President & CEO.  In 2015, after more than three decades of great service to the region, the family exited their ownership and together with Regina-based PFM Capital, we became Prairie Soil Services Ltd., proud to carry on a great tradition. The long-time Norquay company will celebrate 40 years of serving the Parkland in 2023.

Prairie Soil Services is located an hour northeast of Yorkton and serves a 100-mile radius around its impressive Norquay site. The company also operates seasonal locations at Kamsack, Sturgis, Canora and Yorkton, ensuring their customers get the products and services they need when they need them. “We’re proud to be part of the agriculture industry, and we know how important it is for our customers to get timely, dedicated service with quality products,” says Summers.

The ag retailer is focused on crop nutrition and offers full service anhydrous ammonia (NH3), service, equipment and delivery to farms throughout the Parkland. “We excel in the NH3 space and are proud to be the experts you can rely on for your crop needs,” says Summers. The company’s trucking operations are designed to keep the NH3 flowing where others fall short.

Beyond its unrivalled NH3 expertise, Prairie Soil Services also offers dry fertilizer blends that complement NH3, foliar nutrition as well as X10 agronomy support.  “We compete with the major multinational agriculture companies and stand up very well,” says Summers. “Our independence makes us different, and it also makes us an important partner to our customers.”

"Our Employees are family here with many of us now here for decades as well as the majority of our seasonal employees returning season after season".

Prairie Soil Services is also a proud member of the communities and region it serves. The company is deeply involved with the community, donating time and money to many local sports teams, events and more. The company is also a supporter of the local snowmobile clubs, happily grooming trails for sledders in the area to enjoy our long Saskatchewan winters.

“It’s kind of born out of necessity when you’re in a rural area. We’re equipped to help out when and where we can—we’ve got the stuff for an ‘emergency cabaret’,” laughs Summers.

Whether you’re in the market for NH3, fertilizer or anything in between, let Prairie Soil Services help your farming operation succeed. With year-round service from Norquay and seasonal sites in Kamsack, Sturgis, Canora and Yorkton, let the Prairie Soil team do what they do best for you - and help you and your farm operation GROW YOU MORE!
